Weddings should be a once in a lifetime experience so when it
comes to deciding whether to write your own special vows or to read more
traditional vows is a very important decision.
On one hand, traditional
vows are “the wedding words” known to little girls all over. Growing
up when you thought of a wedding, “I,
excited bride, take handsome groom, to be my lawfully wedded husband… till
death do us part” is exactly what came to mind. Nervous your guests will
think traditional vows are boring? Don’t be! There is a reason these powerful
words are a classic. There are always other ways to personalize your wedding ceremony,
so if these traditional words are the way to create your special day, go for
it!
However, there is still one last obstacle to tackle: choosing your officiant, typically a priest. There are some officiants that do not feel comfortable allowing you to write any of your own vows and some that encourage it. When seeking out an officiant it is very important to let them know exactly what you have in mind. Whichever path you chose is up to you and your significant other alone. Either decision is special and meaningful in its own way. Once everyone is on the same page you can begin creating the vows for your special day!
