Being the Best Bridesmaid You Can Be!

One of my best friends just asked me to be one of her bridesmaids, and I’m super excited!  I have to admit I’m a little worried, though, because I’ve never been one before.  Give me the Bridesmaid 101, please!

If you’ve seen the recent movie Bridesmaids¸ you may be thinking the bridesmaid task is a little daunting.  Don’t get us wrong, here at CYE we are a big fan of the comedy, but it shows that being a bridesmaid isn’t always fun and games and may require a little work on your part.

The work isn’t supposed to be taxing, though, but instead, a great time.  For example: figuring out the wedding dress and the bridesmaids dresses is any girl’s dream, so give your opinion!  Let her know what color schemes work and what heels are just plain ugly.  But if it’s breaking your bank to buy the bridesmaids dress, the designer bangles, and a French manicure on top of it alll, ask her to consider some alternatives.  I guarantee the other bridesmaids will be happy someone spoke up.  And don’t be afraid to say no in general.  You have your own relationships, work, and family that need your attention, as well.  Of course your friend is one of your many priorities, but if she requests a 6 a.m. conference call about the seating arrangement, you can feel free to sit that one out.  Also, keep in mind that you can always hire a wedding planning company (like CYE of course!) to designate some of the bigger tasks, too.  That’s our job!  We know you have your own to worry about.  Also, your friend is going to have a lot of stress to deal with, which is where you come into play.  You need to be the relaxed one...the one who always has it together (even if you don't feel that way, it's okay!).  It will give your friend the reassurance she needs.  You should be the friend she can call at 3 a.m. on the day of her wedding, who can calm her down.  Also, be the wild and crazy friend, who she can count on to give her the best bachelorette party.  Bring out a different side of her before the big day!  That all being said, good luck and don't forget to have fun!
